Maintenance is an essential part of having a website: security monitoring, performance enhancements, backups, platform and plugin updates, design tweaks, content adjustments, and so on.
Just like how your vehicle needs regular oil changes and maintenance, your website needs ongoing maintenance to help ensure it’s working properly, and staying secure and up-to-date.
And, as time goes on, you’ll likely want to make updates to your website, like adding or editing text content, swapping in new images, or adjusting color schemes.
If you’re looking to take this work off your plate, we’re here to help.
Buddy offers support and maintenance plans to help ensure your website is always running smoothly, and you’ve got someone helping to make ongoing updates incredibly easy for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
We’d love to work with you! But, candidly, it’s important to us that we only partner together when we know it’s a good mutual fit and we can knock it out of the park for you. This brief Q&A covers some topics about our support and maintenance plans that you might be wondering about.
Ready to proceed? Click the button below!
The Basics
Buddy’s support and maintenance plans are tailored for websites built with WordPress, whether they are a simple marketing website, or have more advanced functionality such as e-commerce, membership databases, or other more complex features.
By comparison, if your site is built with Shopify, Wix, Weebly, or other such platforms, we’re sorry, we don’t currently offer support and maintenance plans for those platforms, just WordPress.
That said, if you’re not sure if your site is a match, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help!
Choosing the right plan can depend on the nature of your website, what you’d like help with, and how often you might need or want help with content updates.
The Basic Monthly Maintenance Plan can be a great fit if you’d primarily like help making sure that your website is always up and running, and up-to-date behind the scenes, so you can have peace of mind about your site.
Our second-level plan, Maintenance + Security and Content Updates, offers all the benefits of our Basic Monthly Maintenance Plan, and also adds in security optimization and 24/7 unlimited website content and styling updates. So, with this plan, we add extra security features, and also if at any time you’d like to see some content or styling changes made for your site, just let us know, and we’ll take care of them for you!
Last, our third-level plan, Comprehensive Optimization and Support, includes all the above benefits, plus, we’ll also take care of ongoing optimizations for speed, mobile responsiveness, and image and media optimization. Additionally, we’ll take care of any malware on your site, and we also offer support and unlimited edits under this plan for advanced functionality sites such as e-commerce or membership websites.
If, after reviewing this information, you’re not quite sure what plan to go with, that’s no problem. Just get in touch, and we’ll be happy to help!
To help with efficiency, collaboration, organization, and documentation, we use a 100% email-based system for any support and maintenance requests you may have. Our support team members are based around the globe, and thus, we are able to receive, monitor, and address your requests 24/7.
As part of the client onboarding process, we’ll be sharing with you access to a page on the Buddy website where it is easy to submit requests to our team at any time.
When you submit an online support request, you will receive a first response email from one of our engineers within 2-6 hours, letting you know that we’re reviewing your request, are assessing the complexity of it, and will let you know when it’s been resolved. Typically within 24-48 hours we will have the request complete, and you will receive a resolution email with the changes made on that ticket.
In the event that your request is atypically complex and more time is needed, we will let you know as soon as possible. Our goal is to be responsive, transparent, communicative, and efficient.
To help with effective communication, collaboration, and organization, we exclusively use email for client communication. Help requests can be submitted by emailing our help team, or by submitting requests on our client web page that is shared during the new client onboarding process.
If phone support, live chat, or real-time screen sharing are must-haves for you, no hard feelings — we might not be the best fit.
Please note, though, we’ve operationalized our entire team and processes around providing thorough and responsive email support, and have found this mode of communication to be an extremely effective approach to keep things simple and efficient for our clients.
Maintenance Plan Questions
Every week our team will email you a status report so you have full and transparent information about the status of your site and its health, as well as any updates that have been made.
And, any time you reach out to us, we’ll reply promptly via email to get rolling on any help or updates we can assist with. We’ll reach out quickly any time clarification or more information is needed, and we’ll update you as soon as any update requests have been completed.
We monitor your website 24/7 by using automated tools that check the status of your website around the clock. These tools ping your site every minute of every day. If your website ever sends back an error message or a warning regarding abnormal activity, that’s our flag that something is wrong. If that happens, we’ll be notified right away, and we’ll get to work resolving whatever the problem is.
Emergencies are never planned. And, when your site goes down, without having someone monitoring it constantly, you might not be aware of this until hours, days, or weeks of downtime later – which means your visitors or customers have been seeing errors when they try to visit your website.
Under our maintenance plans, we ensure every piece of software that comprises your website is always up to date, which helps with both security and functionality. And, with our 24/7 monitoring, we can resolve issues right away.
Plus, if there’s anything you catch (that we don’t first), just let us know, and our world-wide team will promptly see, review, and take action on any issues that arise.
While our core team is US-based, we have a network of team members working together who are based internationally. This geographical coverage allows us to offer 24/7 support for any issues your website may encounter or requests you may have. If anything comes up, even if it’s 3 AM, we’ll have a team member working at that time who can help you out.
Our team is global, working 24/7, 365 days a year, including nights and weekends. So if a crisis comes up, even in the middle of the night, we’ll handle it quickly.
And, after resolving any emergency issues, we’ll provide you with information on the cause and any issues found during our work, so you’re fully in the loop.
Our goal is to offer you excellent support and to be responsive, transparent, communicative, and efficient.
We have a rigorous update process in place for every website that we support, and we make sure that everything runs smoothly after each software update. This includes updating plugin, theme, and core files every week, as updates are available.
Our aim is to complete these updates during low-traffic hours, so as to minimize any effects to your website visitors’ experience on your site.
For our weekly updates, we first run a backup of your website, and then create a staging version of your site, which is duplicate copy that’s offline, where we can test out updates without affecting the live version of your website.
From there, we manually install and test each available update one-by-one, to make sure that everything is working correctly.
Once we’ve affirmed that all the updates are completed and everything is looking good and working as it should, we’ll then make those same updates on the live version of your site.
There are a few reasons for this:
- Sometimes plugin updates are released with bugs. Updating less frequently allows the plugin developer to get rid of these bugs before we add them to your WordPress site.
- Batching more updates together means an easier manual review. That in turn means a lower probability that something bad will happen or break your website.
- We’ll be doing all these updates on the weekend when most websites receive less traffic. That means a safer environment and minimal issues for your visitors.
Please note, we always make an exception for more major plugin updates, such as WooCommerce. When major updates come out for this, we’ll make the updates far more slowly to ensure that your website remains running smoothly without any hiccups.
If updates are causing compatibility issues, we’ll reach out to the companies behind the affected plugins or themes directly to help fix the underlying problem. Our intent is to take care of these situations so you don’t have to.
If your hosting provider has a one-click PHP version setting that we can use to select the desired PHP version, then yes, we can use that if a PHP update is requested.
If this option is not available, then no, it will be up to your host to update the PHP version of your site or server.
If you are on the “Maintenance + Security and Content Updates” or “Comprehensive Optimization and Support” plans, we can put in a ticket with the host on your behalf and ensure that any issues caused by the update are resolved.
If you are on a Basic Monthly Maintenance Plan and a PHP update not done by us causes issues, you will need to resolve that with your host or upgrade your care plan to add website edits so that our team can make the necessary changes to your website to make it compatible with the newer PHP version.
Website Edits Questions
Concisely, yes!
If unlimited website edits are included in your plan, anytime you need something updated, just let us know!
Unlimited website content and styling updates includes requests such as text updates, swapping in new images, changing plugin settings, eCommerce product updates (for the Comprehensive Optimization and Support plan), and CSS adjustments
Examples of included website updates are:
- Swapping out your logo with a new one that you provide
- Taking text or an image you email us and using it to replace existing text or images on a page or blog post
- Adding a blog post with content you provide
- Making changes to content on your headers or footers
- Adjusting formatting
- Changing page titles or meta descriptions for SEO purposes, per your direction
- Changing settings to your website’s plugins
- Installing and setting up a new plugin to use its built-in functionality
- Adding a new product to your WooCommerce store (for which you’ve provided all needed content) – 3rd tier plan only
Examples of updates that are not included are:
- Editing your logo image
- Custom graphic design work
- Writing or proofreading content for your website
- Changing the underlying WordPress theme or page builder
- Building out a new website or subdomain
- Taking a Photoshop mockup of a new web page you’ve designed and creating it in WordPress
- Creating new functionality that doesn’t exist in a plugin (which would require custom development)
- Creating a new WooCommerce store or creating a custom checkout process for a existing WooCommerce store
- Custom PHP development
- Making adjustments to your website hosting plan that are the responsibility of the hosting provider
Yes. But, knocking those out for you is more appropriately structured for you as a list of one-time website updates, rather than setting that up for you as part of a monthly plan, if these truly are one-time edits.
In this case, just get in touch, and if you’re able to provide a wish list of things you’d like to see changed, we’d be happy to give you an estimate on what that would entail for time and price.
But, if you do anticipate wanting ongoing help with your website, including help with edits from time to time, then one of these maintenance plans might make sense for you, even if your list of edits is a little longer in the first month. The maintenance plans we offer here are designed particularly for partners who are looking for a long-term, ongoing partnership.
If you’d like to talk through what you have in mind, and/or see what route might make the most sense, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
You can share with us your first website edits right away after signing up for your plan. However, before we can start tackling those edits, there are a few things we’ll need to get teed up first.
As part of the onboarding process, we’ll need to get login access to your site and hosting, as well as run initial website backups and updates.
Once those are all set and we’re all squared away, we’re off to the races and we can start working on your initial edit requests, as well as any other requests you have down the road.

Yes, for customers that are enrolled in one of our ongoing maintenance plans that offers these services, we can help with malware clean-up or restoring hacked sites.
By contrast, we do not offer this as a one-time service for customers who are not enrolled in these ongoing plans.
Speed Optimization Questions
During onboarding, our team does a full audit of your website and hosting environment. This allows us to create and execute a unique plan for your website to significantly lower loading time.
We also keep your website fast on an ongoing basis. Getting your website to load quickly is one thing, but keeping it loading fast over the long-term is a real game-changer.
During your onboarding process, we’ll work through our proprietary procedures and implement our premium plugins to give you the best possible optimization. Some approaches we take include:
• Optimizing Images
• Removing Query Strings
• Minifying Javascript and CSS
• Optimizing the Mobile Experience
• Identifying and Improving Render-Blocking Resources
• Leveraging Browser Caching
• Lazy Loading Images
• Enabling Compression
• Reducing Server Response Time
• Leveraging CDN Support
After this initial optimization is done, we also check and perform continued speed optimization on a regular basis, so your site is always loading fast.
Our aim is that our optimized client websites load under 2 seconds, but this is influenced largely by a number of factors, and some websites and plugins inherently make loading times a little slower, such as bulky marketing plugins.
Thus, we can’t make any blanket promises when it comes to loading times of the websites we manage.
But, that being said, the majority of sites our team manages do have a loading time under 2 seconds.
If you take our speed engineers’ advice, ensure your website is on appropriate hosting, and do a great job balancing marketing & growth needs with minimalist speed optimization techniques, achieving loading times under 2 seconds should be completely achievable.
eCommerce, Membership, and Advanced Sites Questions
There are a few general categories of websites that we most commonly see that would be considered having “advanced functionality”, but please keep in mind that this list is not all-encompassing, especially since there’s new technology coming out all the time. But, some examples include:
- eCommerce sites the use platforms like WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, WP Simple Pay, etc.
- Membership sites that use platforms like MemberPress, Restrict Content Pro, s2 Member, etc.
- Learning Management sites that use platforms like LearnDash, LifterLMS, Sensei, etc.
- Multilingual websites that use platforms like WPML, Polylang, qTranslate-X, etc.
- Websites that use outside API or software integrations, such as real estate websites that automatically pull in listings information
